A busy Brampton supermarket has been shut down but will reopen later this week with new branding and a new name, and could see shoppers saving on their grocery bills.

The Real Canadian Superstore at Hurontario St. and Steeles Ave. closed on Saturday (July 15) as work is underway to convert the grocery store to a No Frills location.

The former Superstore was the only one in Brampton and will be known as Adil’s No Frills when doors reopen on Thursday.

“We are very excited to welcome shoppers back on July 20,” reads a post on the store’s Facebook page. “Get ready to start your carts and join us as a brand new No Frills location.”

No Frills stores are known for their lack of branding, selling no-name brand goods in plain, bright-yellow packaging.

Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills are both owned by Loblaw Companies Ltd. which has its headquarters in Brampton.

Unlike its Superstore chain, the parent company says No Frills locations have little to no product advertising, store displays, bagging clerks and other grocery store staples, and sell many no-name products to cut down on costs and pass savings onto consumers.

Insauga.com has repeatedly reached out to Lobalw Companies Ltd. and the union representing workers a the store for comment on the changeover, as well as plans for any staffing changes, but no response has been received.

Adil’s No Frills opens on Thursday with store hours from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. For more information and store hours visit www.NoFrills.ca.
