William Cripps bought an Instant Ultimate lottery ticket because he liked the odds, and now he will use his winnings to help his loved ones.

The 61-year-old grandfather from Hamilton is $100,000 richer after winning with Ontario Lottery and Gaming’s Instant Ultimate (game No. 2123). Cripps says this $100-a-play game is not a normal purchase for him, but he decided to purchase it since the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.55, higher than in most OLG games.

“When I played it at home, I couldn’t believe it. I had to look at it five times before realizing I won,” Cripps shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

His children were also in disbelief. “They said, ‘No way – you’re kidding me!’ ” Cripps added.

Cripps plans to help his daughter purchase a house with his winnings.

“It feels good — just absolutely good!” he concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at EZ Mart on Parkdale Avenue in Hamilton.

While Instant Ultimate is $100 a play, it offers forty $1-million top prizes. Those are to be drawn on Dec. 31.

The provincial lottery and gaming corporation books in-person prize claim appointments at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto for customers with prizes over $50,000. They can contact OLG (1-800-387-0098) to discuss options.

Prize winners with claims between $1,000 and $49,999.90 should submit them online or mail them in.
