Woman struck by car while crossing in marked crosswalk in downtown Hamilton: Police

A woman has sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car in downtown Hamilton Monday morning (Dec. 21), according to police.
Police say that shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday, a 48-year-old Hamilton woman was crossing, in the marked crosswalk at James Street South and Young Street.
At the same time, a 36-year-old Hamilton woman was driving a Honda CRV on Young Street. The Honda struck the pedestrian, knocking her to the ground.
The injured woman was taken to hospital and is currently in stable non-life-threatening condition, police said.
The driver of the Honda vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Speed and driver impairment have been ruled out, but all other contributing factors are being investigated at this time.

This is the second incident in the area of James Street South this month where a pedestrian has been struck by a car.
On Dec. 9, a 34-year-old Smithville woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a truck involved in a multi-vehicle collision at the corner of James and Cannon.
This is also the second time this month a person has been utilizing a marked crosswalk and has been struck by a car.
Eleven-year-old Jude Strickland died two days after he was struck by a truck while crossing at a lighted crosswalk with the assistance of a crossing guard at the intersection of Upper Gage and Royal Vista Drive on his way home from school.
In that case, the driver of the truck has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
