A Hamilton grandfather has a lot to celebrate after winning big in the lottery last month.

According to an OLG press release, Nordine McPherson of Stoney Creek matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the May 4, 2021, Lotto Max draw to win $100,000.

The 73-year-old grandfather said he is a regular lottery player with his favourite games being Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and he always adds Encore.

McPherson said he was just about to leave the store on that fateful May day, when he decided to check his ticket.

“I saw the number one and all the zeroes and called the cashier over to come see,” he said in the release.

“When she saw the amount, she held her head and started yelling. It was wonderful and surreal.”

In the meantime, McPherson’s wife was waiting in the care and after taking so long in the store, she came in to see what was going on.

“I wanted to surprise her, but she caught me before I could,” he said.

McPherson said he plans to share his winnings with his family.

“We’re all very excited – we all win!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Husky on Grays Road in lower Stoney Creek.
