The Salvation Army Canada has teamed up with Rogers Communications to provide Canadians with a safe, contactless option for those who wish to donate to the organization this holiday season.
This year, as part of the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettles Campaign, certain kettles will be equipped with technology powered by Rogers LTE-M network that will allow Canadians to tap their credit card or smartphone to donate.
These kettles will have a pre-set amount of $5 that Canadians can donate simply by tapping their device, however, those who wish to donate more may do so by tapping multiple times for a total of $50.
“This has been a year like no other. The need is great – but the opportunities are even greater,” Lt-Colonel John P. Murray, spokesperson for The Salvation Army Canada, said in a news release.
“Enabled by Rogers and tiptap, we are adding another option for Canadians who want to support The Salvation Army in their communities. As life became more challenging this year for so many people, this new technology for our 2020 Christmas Kettle Campaign will help us continue to operate our life-changing programs,” he continued.
Each tap unit has its own wireless receiver that provides a simple, secure way to process touchless donations, and with instant confirmation and acceptance of credit cards, debit cards or mobile wallets, powered by the Rogers LTE-M network and in collaboration with tiptap.
Last year, 10 kettles in Toronto piloted the new technology, which resulted in three times the amount donated to cash-only kettles.
“This innovative technology solution will help enable The Salvation Army Canada to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable Canadians, and it fulfills our higher purpose of strengthening the communities where we live and work,” Dean Prevost, president of Rogers for Business, said in the same release.
