Province reporting 1,691 new COVID-19 cases, 15 deaths

The province is reporting 1,691 new COVID-19 cases today, May 23 (down 103 from yesterday) and 15 deaths (down 5 from yesterday).

There are 455 new cases in Toronto, 326 in Peel, 173 in York Region, 87 in Hamilton, and 50 in Halton.

Since yesterday, 2,458 more cases are considered resolved and over 31,200 more tests completed.

The province has officially surpassed 8 million vaccine doses, with a total of 8,065,607 doses administered in Ontario to date.

That includes the 190,129 doses on Friday, May 21 — a new record for doses administered in a single day.

Residents got the go ahead to get outside this long weekend with the province announcing that many outdoor recreational amenities throughout Ontario will be allowed to reopen, including splash pads, golf courses, driving ranges, tennis and basketball courts, baseball diamonds and batting cages, soccer and other sports fields, lawn bowling and bocce, marinas, and BMX and skate parks.
