PICK A SIDE: Are you sick of virtual events?

We’re approaching 14 months of the pandemic, and Ontario is in exactly the same position we were in at the start.

The latest province-wide lockdown will remain in effect until late May, and even outdoor gatherings are prohibited.

It’s been a full year of missed birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and holidays. People have done what they can to make the most of the situation (remember when House Party was a thing?), but many are feeling Zoom fatigue.

How many times can you attach the same Zoom link to a new event page?

We’re also in a difficult spot this time. While many are tired of being cooped up in their homes, we’re also in the midst of the most severe COVID-19 wave yet.

Additionally, with delays in both acquiring and distributing vaccines, it seems likely we’ll be in this position for at least a few more months.

That likely means potentially more months of virtual events.

But will you still attend and host them?

Some, who have been isolated for a significant chunk of the last 13 months, will likely take any opportunity to see those they care about, even if it’s through a screen.

Others may feel tired of the whole ordeal—tired of people talking over each other, tired of technical difficulties, tired of getting booted out of meetings because they ran on too long, tired of not being able to physically be with those they care about.

So, readers, where do you stand?

Will you continue to have virtual events?
