Hamilton is home to a number of stellar chicken wings joints, and it recently added another top-notch destination for this game-day staple.

Wingporium, a small restaurant chain that originated in Mississauga with several locations throughout the GTA, celebrated their soft opening this past weekend at their new location on Barton.

Located at 737 Barton St. E, the former home of the Prince Edward Tavern, Wingporium’s opening has been much anticipated.

More than a year ago, the massive renovation of the historic building at 737 Barton got underway, with Wingporium’s owners sharing their progress and history of the neighbourhood via social media.

Over the past year, followers have been able to witness the transformation of the Prince Edward, learn about its history and that of its neighbours as well as get a glimpse of what culinary delights were in store for them.

Things understandably hit a snag when COVID-19 hit the community, but with this weekend’s soft opening, Hamilton’s newest wings spot is back on track.

People whose thing might not be chicken wings will be happy to learn that Wingporium is more than just wings, they serve up ribs, pulled pork, fish and chips and much more, which includes vegetarian options.

Their wings, though, earn rave reviews wherever the restaurant pops up (they earned a coveted spot on IntheHammer’s sister site, Insauga, as that city’s No. 1 among the Top 5 Wings joints).

They’re cooked fresh, not frozen and are sourced locally and are generally among the largest in the wing game. Flavours range from Dry and Mild to Black Mamba, which registers at 4 million scoville units, is two notches above ‘Suicide’ and eating a pound of them will earn you a spot on Wingproium’s Wall of Fame.

They’re also known for their carefully selected brews and inventive cocktails.

There’s no word yet on when Hamilton’s Wingporium at the Prince Eddy will hold their grand opening but follow their Instagram to learn more about what the future holds.
