The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made a big splash on day one of CFL free agency, announcing Tuesday (Feb. 9) the football club has signed American defensive back Ciante Evans.

Evans, 28, played 13 games with the Montreal Alouettes in 2019, registering 29 defensive tackles, three interceptions and five pass knockdowns.

The 5-11, 195-pound native of Fort Worth, Texas helped the Alouettes make the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and added four defensive tackles in the Eastern Semi-Final against Edmonton.

In 61 career Canadian Football League games over five seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (2015-18) and Alouettes (2019), Evans has posted 156 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, 12 interceptions and three forced fumbles.

The University of Nebraska product won a Grey Cup with the Stampeders in 2018, and was also named a CFL All-Star (2017) and West Division All-Star twice (2017, 18) during his time in Calgary.
