Metrolinx reported its first COVID-related staff death this weekend.
Spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins said on Friday that a 64-year-old GO Station employee had passed away following complications related to COVID-19.
Aikins says the employee had spent the last 11 years serving customers.
“We’ve offered his grief-stricken family our deepest condolences and support from his Metrolinx family who is mourning this tragic loss,” she said.
“It’s a sad, challenging time but we will get through this together.”
Aikins didn’t specify which station the employee worked at.
Metrolinx says over 60 of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, with this being the first death of one of its employees related to the virus.
