Driver of truck that struck boy on Hamilton Mountain faces dangerous driving charge

The 28-year-old driver of a truck that struck an 11-year-old boy on Tuesday (Dec. 1) on the Mountain is facing dangerous driving charges.

On Tuesday shortly after 3:20 p.m., police responded to the scene of a collision in the area of Upper Gage at Royal Vista Drive.

Police say an 11-year-old boy was crossing Royal Vista Drive in the marked crosswalk, with the assistance of a crossing guard when the driver of a Dodge RAM failed to stop for both the traffic light and the crossing guard and struck the child.

The child was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition.

Police confirmed Wednesday morning that driver has been arrested for Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm and he will appear in court later in the day.

Driver impairment has been ruled out, according to police and all other contributing factors are being investigated at this time.
