COVID-19: Another resident of Ancaster LTC has died; 36 new cases in Hamilton reported

Another resident of Chartwell Willowgrove Long Term Care Residence with COVID-19 has died, Hamilton Public Health Services (PHS) confirmed on Friday (Nov. 20).
A woman in her early 90s passed away on Thursday (Nov. 19), according to PHS, bringing the city’s COVID-19-related death toll to 73.
She is the 13th resident of the Ancaster LTC, which is dealing with an unrelenting outbreak of the virus, to have died in a little over two weeks.
Three local outbreaks of the virus — one at Hatts Off Group Home, another at Ridgeview LTC and one at Jonathon’s Perron Floor Coverings — have been declared over.
Two more outbreaks, however, have been declared: one at Advanced Motor Solutions where four staff members have tested positive for the virus and one at First Place where one staff member has tested positive. There are 16 active outbreaks in the community at the moment.
On Friday, there were 36 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hamilton, bringing the total number to 2,589, with 2,180 (84 per cent) having been resolved.

Hamilton hospitals are reporting that they are treating 16 people for coronavirus currently.
According to the data shared on the City of Hamilton’s website, there is believed to be 331 active cases in the community presently.
Hamilton schools are reporting 34 cases among staff and students at 23 schools in both boards across the city, according to data on the province’s website.
Assessment centres in the city have completed 123,907 COVID-19 tests while an additional 24,259 tests have been completed at other facilities.
Meanwhile, Ontario reported 1,418 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with eight new deaths related to the virus.
Health Minister Christine Elliott said there were 400 new cases in Peel Region, 393 in Toronto and 168 in York Region.
Premier Doug Ford is scheduled to speak later Friday and it is expected that he will be announcing further restrictions for those hot spots in the province.
As of Friday, Ontario had 518 people in hospital with COVID-19.
