Dan Fraser finds that in times of need, residents of Burlington always step up and lend a helping hand.

Fraser, along with his wife Merrilee, are the co-organizers of the Share the Love Food Drive being put on by One Burlington.

So far, Fraser is thrilled with the response they’ve seen with the city-wide campaign to support the Burlington Food Bank.

“It’s a real privilege for Merrilee and I to be involved in the One Burlington food drive,” said Fraser, of the week-long campaign that runs through to this Saturday.

“We’ve been contacting all the grocery stores and all the food groups and the response has just been fabulous. There are an awful lot of generous people here in Burlington and it’s been really great to get involved.”

There are several drop-off locations that include every fire hall in the city, Burlington City Hall and grocery stores with collection food bins or carts.

Founded by several faith groups after the tragic Quebec mosque shooting in 2017, One Burlington celebrates the multi-faith and multi-cultural foundation of the community. The organization has over 40 faith and non-faith groups with the aim to strengthen and help bring the community together.

“Its mission is really to bring the people of Burlington together through education and programs that bridge the gaps,” said Shadi Salehian, Chair of One of Burlington.

“This year, we are very excited because in collaboration with the Burlington Food Bank, we have initiated this Share the Love Food Drive,” added. Salehian.

“It’s a city-wide food drive and I’m extremely grateful for two of our members, Dan and Merrilee, who have really headed this program.”

The most needed items at this time include canned meats (ham, turkey, chicken), large juice (1L Tetra or Cans), rice (1kg or 2kg sizes), peanut butter, cookies and canned tomatoes. Donations of canned fruit, large soup (ready to eat), hot cereal (oatmeal/porridge single servings), shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes would also be welcome.

Monetary donations can be made online at www.burlingtonfoodbank.ca/donate. Tax receipts are available.
