Town council has a vision for Oakville to be the most livable town in the country. In order to achieve this, the town has laid out some areas of focus in its 2019 – 2022 strategic plan.

“The strategic plan sets out the strategic direction for the town of Oakville over the term of council,” notes the town of Oakville’s website. “It serves as the framework to help guide council’s decision making and resource allocation during the four-year term of office.”

The plan is guided by following three fundamental elements: vision, mission, and values.

As noted on the town’s website the vision is to be the most livable town in the country, the mission is to create and preserve the country’s most livable community that enhances the natural, social, cultural, and economic environments. Lastly, there are six values included in this plan: accountability, dedication, honesty, innovation, respect, and teamwork.

So, what exactly does this plan consist of?

As outlined, and as mentioned, in the graphics below, there are five council areas of focus: livability, engaged community, accountable government, environment, and mobility.

How council plans to address these areas is noted below.

More specifically, between the years 2022 and 2022 the town is planning to undertake an uptown growth area study, develop a heritage tree strategy, ensure that Oakville has an adequate supply of serviced land for development, relaunch its website to support easier access to online tools and services, review the licencing by-law along with the nuisance, property standards, and lot maintenance by-laws – just to name a few future action items that are included in the plan.

The plan also outlines some areas that need work.

The 2029 – 2022 strategic plan was approved at council on April 29, 2019.
