Here’s What’s Happening with Construction in Milton

Back in 2009, a road widening and urbanization construction project kicked off in the Town of Milton.

This project is being carried out on Louis St. Laurent Avenue. 

This roadway, once construction is completed, will provide a vital corridor linking east and west Milton, from Tremaine Road through to James Snow Parkway. The roadway will also provide more access for residents in residential growth areas to major highways, including the 407 and the 401.

“The completed roadway will intersect all three residential growth areas known as the Bristol Survey (to the north, on the eastern portion of the roadway), Sherwood Survey (to the north, on the western portion of the roadway) and Boyne Survey (to the south, along the entire roadway),” according to the town of Milton website.

This project, as mentioned, kicked off in 2009 and is expected to be completed by 2020. 

The project is being carried out in seven phases. The first five phases have been completed and the sixth phase, according to the Town of Milton on Twitter, kicked off this week.

During this phase construction will be happening on Louis St. Laurent from Vickerman Way to Fourth Line. This phase will consist of the following, according to the town.

  • Construction of two eastbound traffic lanes including roundabouts at Kennedy Circle west and east legs.
  • Construction of a multi-purpose trail in the south boulevard.
  • The intersections located at Thompson Road and Ferguson Drive will have signal upgrades to meet town standards.
  • The intersection at Freeman Trail will be altered to provide right in/right out access only.
  • The intersection of Fourth Line and Louis St. Laurent will have temporary signals installed as part of this design. This intersection will be modified to be right in/right out as intended in the Boyne Road Network Assessment in the future when the North/South collector roads are complete and operational.

Phase 6 is expected to be completed by late 2019.

The five previously completed phases have consisted of the following.

Phase 1 – Regional Road 25 to Yates Blvd.

  • Construction of two westbound traffic lanes, storm sewers, and curbs.
  • Construction of a multi-purpose trail in the north boulevard.
  • Construction of north bridge over 16 Mile Creek.

Phase 2 – Bronte Street to Regional Road 25

  • Construction of westbound traffic lanes including storm sewers, curbs and on-road bike lane.
  • Construction of a multi-purpose trail in the north boulevard.

Phase 3 – CN Rail Overpass West of Bronte Street

  • Design and building of a four-lane railway overpass including centre median, on-road bike lane, curbs, trail-way and sidewalks.

Phase 4 – Tremaine Road to Regional Road 25

  • Construction of four traffic lanes including storm sewers, curbs, on-road bike lanes from Tremaine Road to Bronte Street.
  • Construction of eastbound traffic lanes including storm sewers, curbs and on-road bike lane from Bronte Street to Regional Road 25.
  • Construction of a multi-purpose trail in the north and south boulevards.

Phase 5 – Regional Road 25 to Vickerman Way

  • Construction of two eastbound traffic lanes, including a roundabout at Yates Drive and curbs.
  • Construction of the southern bridge over 16 Mile Creek.
  • Construction of a multi-purpose trail in the south boulevard.

The seventh, and final phase, will consist of the following and is expected to start and be completed by 2020.

Phase 7 – Fourth Line to James Snow Parkway

  • Construction of two eastbound traffic lanes.
  • Construction of a multi-purpose trail in the south boulevard.

The total estimated cost of this project is $37 million.
