Hamilton Police continue to investigate a multi-car collision that sent three people to hospital and closed a busy Downtown intersection on Wednesday (Dec. 9).

Police say that just before 11 a.m., a Hyundai SUV was travelling westbound on Cannon Street East approaching James Street North when at the same time, a GMC Sierra pick-up truck was travelling southbound on James Street.

The vehicles collided in the intersection resulting in the GMC truck mounting the curb and striking a woman who was standing on the sidewalk waiting to cross. The truck came to rest against a Volkswagen Toureg, just south of the intersection.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 56-year-old Hamilton man and the driver of the GMC, a 34-year-old Niagara Falls woman were both transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The pedestrian, a 34-year-old Smithville woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where she remains in stable condition, police said in a press release issued Thursday.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the collision. Detectives have ruled out driver impairment but all other contributing factors including which vehicle had the right of way, are being considered at this time.
