Usually, Boxing Day is a mad rush to the malls, electronics stores and retailers to scoop up some hot deals, but since Hamilton entered the lockdown, those places remain closed for in-person shopping.
This year, Boxing Day falls on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020. Because it falls on a weekend, some businesses and offices will treat Monday, Dec. 28 as a statutory holiday (so if you plan on going out on Dec. 28, call ahead to be sure your destination is open).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some things that are typically open might be closed and there will be no major public events due to physical distancing restrictions.
Social gatherings are prohibited and residents are asked to celebrate the holidays with members of their own household exclusively. People who live alone are permitted to join one other household for the holidays.
So, with that in mind, here is what’s open and closed on Boxing Day 2020:
- 2020 was a record year for development in Hamilton; big plans in store for 2021
- Mohawk College drops four of its varsity sports programs for 2021
- CPL Player of the Year, Kyle Bekker re-signs with Forge FC Hamilton
FUN FACT: It is called “Boxing Day” because – starting in medieval Britain – servants had a day off and would receive a gift box on this day.
