Popular Canadian sketch comedy show the Baroness Von Sketch Show tweeted a sketch poking fun at our fair city Thursday (Oct. 17).

In the sketch, a couple who appear to have just relocated to Hamilton from Toronto talk up their new hometown to a friend who seems to remain unconvinced.

The pair tout the city’s culinary scene, Art Crawl and affordability while momentarily lamenting that they haven’t made any friends.

One half of the couple describes Hamilton as “the Brooklyn of Jersey” as the other corrects her saying it’s “the Jersey of Brooklyn,” as the baffled friend quietly comments that she “doesn’t know what that means.”

They also rave about how ‘close’ Hamilton is to their former stomping grounds, insisting that a round trip from their new front door to downtown Toronto would take a ‘cool’ four hours.

Ultimately, the couple ends up handcuffing their friend, drugging her and carrying her out the restaurant to presumably bring her to Hamilton.

While some may take exception to the notion that one has to be drugged and dragged to the city for a visit, for the most part, the social media response to the sketch is favourable, with most appreciating the nod to Steeltown.

One twitter user wrote: “I feel personally attacked and validated all at the same time.”

Another wrote: “Touché. But still, much love for #hamont.”
