UPDATE: Suspect arrested for attempted murder following stabbing in Hamilton

Police have made an arrest after an attempted murder in Corktown Park on Friday, July  3.

Shortly before 4:00 a.m. on Friday, police say a 22 year old woman was walking through Corktown Park when she was attacked by a male and received multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

The victim’s 28 year old boyfriend came across the attack as it was occurring and the male allegedly fled the scene westbound through the park.

The victim is currently in stable condition.

Later that day around 4:30 p.m., officers were called to a purse snatching in the area of John Street South and Hunter Street.

“The culprit was chased by some witnesses who were confronted by the suspect who produced a knife,” said police.

Police arrived moments later and the suspect was apprehended. Officers recognized him from the previous police statement and notified Major Crime Investigators.

30 year old Calvin David Horvat of no fixed address has been charged with attempted murder and will appear in a Hamilton court on Saturday.
