Two Hamilton neighbourhoods still have high COVID-19 rates

While COVID-19 percent positivity rates (the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in an area) are continuing to drop across Ontario, two areas in Hamilton are still reporting relatively high rates.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of June 13 to 19.

Of the top 50 listed, two are in Hamilton:

L8R at 6.90% (area of York Blvd from Wellington St N to McQuesten High Level Bridge)
18th highest percent positivity area in Ontario

L9B at 4.90% (area of Rymal Rd and Upper James St)
34th highest percent positivity area in Ontario

Out of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Hamilton has the 6th highest COVID-19 percent positivity at 2.22%. Ontario overall is listed 8th at 1.67%.

Top 15 public health units by COVID-19 percent positivity

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of June 13 was 1.7%, a drop from 2.4% the previous week.

Ontario has reached 73% overall vaccine coverage among those aged 12 and up, a 2% increase from the previous week.
