Two people have been charged following the city’s second homicide of the year, which took place earlier this month.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, police say a 30-year-old male attended 646 Main St East, “which was the residence of an acquaintance.”

When he was invited inside, the victim was viciously attacked by the assailants, according to police.

One of the assailants reportedly jumped out a window to escape when police arrived at the scene.

Officers located a 30-year-old Hamilton man with stab wounds. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police confirmed today (February 28) that the victim, Simon “Tommy” Hoang, died in the hospital.

27 year old Jason Anthony Long and 33 year old Madelene Peternel, who were initially charged with attempted murder and taken into custody, are now charged with first-degree murder.

Additionally, 30 year old Hamilton woman Jamie Lee McMaster was arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact for allegedly helping Jason Long evade arrest, according to police.

“Investigators are still looking to identify the third person who was directly involved in the act of attacking Tommy. He is described as male, white, 6’0 plus, [with an] athletic-looking build and may have a British accent,” said police.

Police say jewelry stolen from Tommy Hoang during the incident is still outstanding.

Anyone with information related to this homicide, and anyone who received or purchased any items from Jason Long or anyone associated with him between February 10 to 23, is encouraged to contact police at 905-546-3825 or via Crime Stoppers.
