Trudeau extends CERB for eight weeks

At a June 16 press conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) will be extended for an additional eight weeks to help residents who cannot go back to work just yet.
The prime minister explained that the CERB extension will enable those who initially applied for the first round to continue receiving checks after the 16-week eligibility period.
“Even as we start to reopen, a lot of people still need this support to pay their bills while they look for work,” said Trudeau.
“Our goal is to make sure that the CERB is working for you in the best way possible,” he said, adding that they want to ensure that these benefits help Canadians “get back on their feet.”
With the Trudeau Liberals’ wage subsidy program, more than one million Canadians have already ended their CERB payments and have returned to work.
CERB is stated to end on October 2, 2020.

Additionally, the prime minister announced that the Canada-U.S border will remain closed to non-essential travel for another 30 days.
This means that the border restrictions will remain in place until July 21.
“This is an important decision that will keep people in both of our countries safe,” said Trudeau.
This is now the third time that this agreement has been extended since being imposed in March.
