Top 5 Places to Go to for Something Sweet in Hamilton

Published July 26, 2019 at 6:29 pm

Every once and awhile (more often than I’d like to admit) I get a craving for something sweet.

And although it’s easy just to go to the grocery store and get a Kit Kat bar, come home and start binge-watching Netflix, it’s always nice to go out and get something thats a little more unique and luxurious.

Luckily, Hamilton is not a city that is lacking when it comes to places to get a sweet treat.

Here are the top five places to go for something sweet in the city.

5. Bitten on Locke

This place is so good that even the Food Network has visited!

Bitten on Locke specializes homemade and gourmet cupcakes, as well as Whoopie pies. All Bitten products are made with fresh ingredients which will be evident in your first bite.

A few cupcake flavours that customers can choose from include the Berry Manilow, Banana PB SKor, and Birthday Cake (one of our personal favourites).

Bitten products are excellent to eat right as you leave the store (or even before you’re out the door – we won’t judge), or, as their website suggests, you can even order ahead of time for celebrations, or personalize orders for corporate clients.

4. Donut Monster

Calling all doughnut lovers (everyone)! If you want a top-quality doughnut, and unique flavours to pick from that you can’t find anywhere else then this is the place to go.

The establishment prides itself on creating from-scratch doughnuts using high-quality ingredients. However, if for some strange reason you don’t feel like a doughnut, fear not. You can always try out Donut Monster’s delicious coffee or a milkshake.

Donut Monster only officially opened its Locke Street location back in 2018 but it has very quickly become a Hamilton staple and hotspot.

3. Chocolat on James

There are a ton of places on James Street that are excellent when it comes to sweet treats. However, the one we’ve decided to highlight on this list is Chocolat on James.

I’ve never walked into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, but I can assure you that Chocolat on James is just as good.

While at Chocolat on James you’ll find truffles, fudge, chocolate bark (butter crunch and mint swirl are just two of the incredible flavours you can pick from), and so much more. The store also has a variety of novelty items such as chocolate frogs and bugs (don’t knock it till you try it).

One of our Chocolat on James favourites is the hot chocolate – the perfect menu item that will definitely cure your sweet tooth regardless of whether it’s summer or winter.

2. Panini & Ice Cream

From the outside this place may not seem like much but we promise it’s worth visiting. As the name suggests, here you’ll find an assortment of panini options and ice cream options. And, let us tell you, the ice cream options are out of this world and totally Instagram worthy.

You can play it safe and just choose from one of the many ice cream flavours offered (either as ice cream or as a milkshake), or you can live your wildest dreams by ordering a half and half (half ice cream and half a milkshake).

Whatever you do decide to order, it is pretty much guaranteed that you will not be disappointed.

 1. Jax Sweet Shoppee

Jax Sweet Shoppe is a great place, located in Dundas, to come to if you’re craving something sweet and sugary – it’s right there in the name after all. And, one of the best parts is that some of the menu items count as breakfast!

A few menu items you can indulge in include crepes (banana hazelnut crunch, or, one of our personal favourites, the strawberries and cream are just a few flavour options), waffles (banana chocolate chip anyone?), cookies, tarts, scones, squares, candy, cakes, pies, and, well you get it, there’s a lot to pick from.

Jax Sweet Shoppee also has dairy-free and wheat-free options.
