Top 5 Places to go for Fish and Chips in Hamilton

Published August 28, 2019 at 8:40 pm

All seafood is great, but there’s nothing better than a good old fashioned plate of fish and chips every now and then – it’s the perfect comfort food!

Luckily, Hamilton is swimming (do you see what I did there?) with places to go to for fish and chips. And although having a lot of options may seem like a good thing, it can sometimes be overwhelming – especially when you need to decide fast.

So, we’ve made things easy for you and picked out the top five places to go for fish and chips in the city.

5. Golden Fish and Chips

Golden Fish and Chips has been serving the city for more than 25 years, and it definitely shows because they have perfected the art of cooking up fish and chips. When I visit this establishment, I typically either get the classic fish & chips or the shrimp & chips (6 ounces of popcorn shrimp with large fries), however nothing on the menu will leave you disappointed. When stopping by the establishment, you have the option to stay for a while and dine-in, or if you’re in a rush you can get takeout.

4. The Lighthouse Fish and Chips Plus English Greats

From the outside, this small fish and chip joint may not look like much due to its size but we can assure that the inside does not disappoint. I visited The Lighthouse Fish and Chips for the first time with my mom on a complete whim – and I think it’s safe to say that neither of us have looked back since.

Now, it is one of my go-to places when I’m craving fish and chips. The owners are originally from the UK so it’s safe to say they know a little something about crafting English-style fish and chips.

When I visit, I usually get the mouth-watering cod!

3. Parkdale Fish and Chips

Parkdale Fish and Chips has been around for more than 35 years, and they are famous for their thin, golden, and crispy fish. The menu consists of a wide variety of options, however, my personal favourite is the regular haddock dinner with a Greek salad and of course the chips.

However, another good choice worth trying out is the shrimp tacos (three tacos for $14.95).

2. Captain Mike’s Fish and Chips

If you’ve been looking for a great fish and chip restaurant you can take the whole family to, Captain Mike’s is the place to go. This restaurant offers one or two-piece fish platters, however, Mike’s also has incredible family fish meals.

When my family visits this restaurant together, our go-to order is the five-piece cod and fries. However, when I go to Mike’s by myself (no shame!) I usually order the haddock platter but both meals are equally delicious!

1. Hutch’s on the Beach

We couldn’t do a top five fish and chips list without including the iconic Hutch’s on the Beach!

Hutch’s on the Beach has been around since 1946, serving up French fries, milkshakes, hamburgers, and hotdogs… but of course, what we’re here to discuss is the fish and chips.

Fish and chips at Hutch’s are like no other, the fish is the perfect combination of greasy, crispy, and fresh, as are the fries. When I visit this incredible establishment, I usually indulge in the small fish and chips meal and find the food melting in my mouth (I’m almost drooling just thinking about it)!

And of course, after I finish my meal, I must have some ice cream to wash everything down.
