Three officers with the Hamilton Police Service (HPS) have been taken to hospital for stab wounds suffered while attending to a person in crisis downtown.
Shortly after 3 p.m., HPS officers were dispatched to the area of James Street North and Cannon Street West in relation to a person reportedly armed with a weapon and acting unpredictably.
Responding officers attempted to subdue the suspect. During the altercation, three officers suffered stab wounds to their neck and head areas.
All three officers were transported to hospital in stable condition.
The suspect, a 24-year-old man from Oakville, was arrested and charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer, four counts of resisting arrest, one count of possessing a weapon.
