Tens of thousands of Hamiltonians without power

A massive power outage in Hamilton is affecting tens of thousands of residents Monday morning (Sept. 14).

A massive power outage in Hamilton is affecting tens of thousands of residents Monday morning (Sept. 14).

Alectra Utilities is reporting there is presently a widespread power outage in the City of Hamilton Area of Hamilton affecting 34,749 customers.

The cause of the outage is a supply problem from Hydro One, the utility provider says

Crews have been dispatched to make repairs and the estimated time for power restoration is 1:00 p.m.

Previous reports had the number of affected customers pegged at more than 40,000 people, which has since been adjusted.

UPDATE: Alectra now says there are currently close to 15,000 customers in Hamilton without power. 

The utility provider says that 14,484 homes and businesses are affected in the central and western parts of the city.
