A second outbreak has been declared at a satellite Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) facility.

The announcement was made Monday (Jan. 19) after the outbreak was declared on the second floor of the Satellite Health Facility. Seven patients in total have tested positive on the particular floor.

Meanwhile, the third floor remains in outbreak since it was declared Jan. 6, with a total of 25 patients and 22 staff who are positive for COVID-19 to date.

“Both floors are closed for admissions and additional cleaning has been initiated,” said HHS in an official statement.

“All positive patients have been moved, or are in the process of moving, to the COVID units at the Hamilton General Hospital and the Juravinski Hospital. All COVID-positive staff members are self-isolating. Visitors are not permitted on the second and third floors; however, exceptions will be made for patients receiving end-of-life care.”

The Satellite Health Facility is located at 150 King St. E in Effort Square as part of a joint effort by HHS and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The space was set up in Oct. 2020 to address hospital capacity concerns.

Meanwhile, the outbreak at Hamilton General Hospital is still in effect in the Short Stay Medical Unit. However, the unit was re-opened on Jan. 19 for admissions.
