Remembrance Day events in Hamilton cancelled

Remembrance Day is coming up next week and like all things 2020, it will be honoured differently this year in Hamilton.
Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the City of Hamilton has cancelled all public events, including wreath-laying ceremonies and parades.
“This is in order to protect our vulnerable family members and military members and community at large,” said Mayor Fred Eisenberger during a virtual media briefing on Monday (Nov. 2).
“Leading up to Remembrance Day, I encourage everyone to continue to wear red poppies to honour our service members. On November 11th itself at 11 a.m. I call on everyone to observe two minutes of silence.”
He noted that there are several ways for Hamiltonians to observe the solemn day and honour its true intent virtually.
For example, the City of Hamilton is hosting a virtual Remembrance Day Service from 10:30 to 11:15 which will be streamed on the City’s YouTube Channel and on Cable 14.

Members of the public who wish to have a wreath placed on their behalf can drop their wreaths off at the Hamilton Military Museum in Dundurn Park from November 1 to 10 between the hours of 12 noon to 4 pm or an contact the museum to arrange outside of their operating hours.
Eisenberger also said that in honour of the day, the Lancaster will also be performing a flyover of Hamilton’s cenotaphs.
