A portion of Barton Street East will close next week for seven weeks for construction.

A portion of Barton Street East will close next week for seven weeks for construction.

In a press release sent out Thursday (Oct. 8), the City of Hamilton said the lane closures between Frederick Avenue and Cope Street will start Tuesday (Oct. 13).

Along this stretch, Barton will be reduced to one lane in each direction as crews work to complete watermain valve replacements.

Motorists are warned to expect delays and the HSR’s eastbound Barton bus (#2) will be detoured during this time.

As well, the City says the single eastbound lane will be closed between Kenilworth Avenue North and Harmony Avenue to accommodate work being done at the Kenilworth intersection.

This work gets underway Monday, October 19 and is expected to wrap up on or by Friday, October 30, weather permitting. Traffic will have to follow a detour in this area.

“The entire project is expected to wrap up on or before November 27, 2020, weather permitting,” the City release says.

“Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction.”
