Police perform marine rescue after boat catches fire near Van Wagners Beach in Hamilton

Hamilton Police Service (HPS) orchestrated a rescue of three people whose boat caught fire along the shores of Lake Ontario in Hamilton.

At 4:45 this afternoon (June 4), HPS Marine Unit was called to an area north of Van Wagners Beach from one of the boaters in distress, the boat caught fire less than two kilometres north of the beach.

When HPS arrived, two men and a woman were floating in the water near their boat, which had become fully engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, all those aboard the boat had been wearing their life jackets when they were forced to evacuate for safety reasons.

All three boaters were transported back to shore and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
