Police Investigate Shooting in Downtown Hamilton

Hamilton Police are investigating a shooting in the city’s downtown core.

On Tuesday (Sept. 24) just before 12:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Wentworth Ave. N and Cannon Street to reports of shots fired.

A suspect was apprehended at the scene after a short foot chase, police say.

Two schools nearby, Cathy Wever Elementary School and Cathedral High School were placed on Hold and Secure at the time. The Hold and Secure was lifted at approximately 1:50 p.m.

With the support of K9 and the Emergency Response Unit, a firearm was recovered near the scene and there are no reported injuries.
