Pair face drugs, weapons charges after Hamilton Police cruiser struck

A Hamilton Police cruiser was struck Wednesday (Dec. 19) while trying to attempt a traffic stop and now the occupants of the suspect vehicle face drugs and weapons charges.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Hamilton Police say an officer observed a Honda Civic with heavy front-end damage travelling northbound on Sanford Avenue North in Hamilton.

Police attempted a traffic stop by pulling in front of the vehicle as it travelled eastbound on Ottawa Street North but the vehicle accelerated, hitting the rear bumper of the patrol car and sideswiping it as it tried to pass.

The Honda lost control and struck a concrete barrier. Despite the damage to both cars, the driver of the Honda chose to continue driving eastbound on Ottawa Street ignoring lights and sirens.

The vehicle was quickly located driving on Parkdale Avenue South where a traffic stop was safely conducted.

Police identified the two occupants as 31-year-old Jarrett McKay of no fixed address and 31-year-old Ashline Hall of Hamilton and placed them under arrest.

Inside the vehicle police found drugs, a pellet handgun, a pellet rifle, prohibited weapons, fraudulent money, stolen identification and ammunition.

The McKay and Hall were brought into Central custody with their bail opposed.

McKay is facing a slew of charges that includes:

  • Possession Methamphetamine
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance x5
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Possess a Counterfeit Mark x 2
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession under $5000 x 2
  • Possession Contrary to Order x 2
  • Possession of Heroin
  • Fail to Re-attend Court

Hall is facing the following charges:

  • Adult Possession Methamphetamine
