An outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in over 50 positive cases and 13 deaths at Anson Place Care Centre, located just outside Hamilton.

An outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in over 50 positive cases and 13 deaths at Anson Place Care Centre, located just outside Hamilton.

The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) says it is working with Anson Place staff to take steps to contain the outbreak.

As of April 11, the facility reported that 51 of its residents had tested positive for COVID-19, and 13 residents had died.

Additionally, 30 staff have also tested positive for the virus and are not working at the facility at this time.

“As part of the Health Unit’s public health management plan, residents are in self-isolation in their rooms, and staff are wearing full personal protective equipment to prevent the transmission of COVID-19,” said the HNHU.

“All staff who are caring for residents at Anson Place are in self-isolation, with the exception that they may travel to and from work at the facility.”

Anson Place Care Centre operates as both a long-term care home and a retirement home.

The home is listening to health directives and disallowing residents to leave the home and visit family or friends for the time being.

“The health and well-being of our residents, families and staff continues to be our number one priority,” said Anson Place. “Our provincial government and the Chief Medical Officer of Health have strongly recommended that we only allow essential visitors into the Home/Community until further notice.”
