Online job postings beginning to return to pre-pandemic numbers

Despite additional restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Ontario, online job postings are continuing to improve.
As of October 2, the number of online job postings in Canada was just 16 per cent below 2019 levels around the same time.
While the numbers are still down year-over-year, this past week saw a three per cent increase compared to the week prior.
Additionally, after year-over-year numbers plummeted between mid-April and mid-May, they have been increasing incrementally ever since.
When it comes to job postings by Province, Ontario’s year-over-year numbers are in line with National numbers–16 per cent fewer postings year over year, putting them in the middle of the pack–Quebec’s year-over-year postings are down 20 per cent, while P.E.I’s postings are up 24 per cent compared to this time last year.

When it comes to postings by sector, nursing has seen a 15-per-cent increase year-over-year, while sports, and hospitality and tourism are down by 39 per cent; aviation has been hit hardest during the pandemic, as job postings are down 66 per cent compared to last year.
Further, sectors such as loading and stocking, customer service, and production and manufacturing are beginning to see job postings return to normal. However, with the number of new cases continuing to climb this could change
