A longtime downtown Hamilton favourite has reinvented itself and has reopened in the midst of a global pandemic.

A longtime downtown Hamilton favourite has reinvented itself and has reopened in the midst of a global pandemic.

The owner of My Thai on John North reopened last week for take-out and delivery under the new name Bambu Restaurant.

“It was bittersweet taking down the My Thai sign because we have been operating for soo long and it has become a part of our identity,” a Facebook post announcing the change says.

“We are excited and looking forward to the next chapter of this journey.”

The team at the former My Thai location, captained by owner Heidy Nguyen-Doan, has been serving the community for more than 20 years.

In fact, they were the original My Thai location, of which there are now six across Ontario, which was founded by Vanh Kalong in 2001.

The new owners took over a number of years ago and this new transition marks a new chapter in the restaurant’s history.

The new menu will look pretty familiar for the time being, but social media posts hint that some changes may be afoot once the threat of the pandemic has passed and the restaurant can officially reopen.

To check out their menu, visit Bambu’s new website, or follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
