Hamilton’s James Street North is the new home of an eatery with a Southern kick and it looks like it’s going to be a hot spot.

Uncle Ray’s Food & Liquor, which is brought to you by the same people behind Union Chicken in Toronto, have settled in at their new location at 10 James St. N. (Corner of King and James).

This is the first Uncle Ray’s location with a second one opening soon in Toronto on Church Street.

Earlier this week, Uncle Ray’s in Hamilton welcomed diners for their soft opening but starting Monday (Dec. 16) they will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m Monday to Friday and on weekends from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Uncle Ray’s southern-inspired menu was created under the guidance of Michael Angeloni, a renowned chef in the Toronto food scene who has earned a reputation for being incredibly versatile and creative.

So far, the reviews of Uncle Ray’s have been glowing.

“What an amazing experience for a soft opening,” wrote one happy customer on Instagram. “A job well done. Loved everything about it. Will definitely be back.”

Popular Hamilton food blogger, tastehamont, wrote in an Instagram post: “Got to try so many dishes and simply put I would go back for sure! Their grilled oysters, grilled whole squids and crispy 48hr beef rib were my FAVs. Rare to find shrimp and grits in town -well here it is!”

With the food covered, the ‘liquor’ part of Uncle Ray’s also looks pretty spectacular. They have a lengthy beer menu that features some local breweries and a thoughtfully selected wine list from featuring local wineries and vintages from abroad.

It’s their signature cocktail menu that will undoubtedly wow diners. Their ‘Champagne. Boom Shaka Laka Pina Colada’ looks like heaven in a glass.

From the look of things, a night (or afternoon) at Uncle Ray’s promises to be quite an adventure.
