There are three new cases of COVID-19 associated with Hamilton schools and an outbreak connected to a downtown spin studio has grown.

According to data shared Wednesday evening (Oct. 7) by both of Hamilton’s school boards, three new cases among staff and students have been confirmed in the last couple of days.

A staff member St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary in Waterdown is the latest case for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB). In that case, no classes have been closed and made to quarantine.

For the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) a staff member, who was last at the school on Friday (Oct. 2) at Frank Panabaker Elementary School (North Campus) in Ancaster tested positive for the virus.

“As part of the contact tracing process, Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) is in contact with individuals who may have been exposed,” a letter home to families said.

“Students and/or staff who may have been exposed have been made aware. As a precautionary measure, the students and staff associated with this case have received instruction from HPHS.”

Also, a student at Huntington Park Elementary School on the East Mountain, who was last in the school on Thursday (Oct. 1). In this case, this student’s cohort is being instructed to self-isolate for 14 days, according to a letter to families of the school.

Meanwhile, an outbreak that was declared earlier this week at SpinCo Hamilton on James North has worsened.

The number of people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 is now up to seven: six patrons and one staff member.

The fitness studio voluntarily closed earlier this week when the outbreak was declared. At that time, two patrons and one staff member had confirmed cases of COVID-19.
