Students at Mohawk College may be eligible for financial assistance provided directly by the school.

The college recently announced the COVID-19 Emergency Bursary, which will provide eligible students a one-time payment of up to $500, depending on the student’s financial need.

Overall, the school says it has $1 million in available financial aid.

“These are difficult times,” Mohawk College said in a recent statement. “As a college, Mohawk is committed to supporting you, as best we can, to ensure you can successfully continue with your studies.”

To be eligible for support, students must:

  • have been registered as a full-time postsecondary student during the Winter 2020 semester which includes those students who are eligible to graduate or are continuing in their studies this Summer (based on their program)
  • be in emergency financial need as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic and need support with expenses such as groceries, utilities or medical costs

According to Mohawk College, funding for the COVID-19 Emergency Bursary comes from consolidating existing support funds for students, as well as from donors through the Mohawk College Foundation, the Mohawk Students’ Association, and government sources.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, May 15.

For more information and full details regarding eligibility, students can visit Mohawk College’s website.
