Man arrested in East Hamilton shooting faces drugs and weapons charges

A 44-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday (June 17) after being arrested in connection to a shooting in East Hamilton Tuesday.

A 44-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday (June 17) after being arrested in connection to a shooting in East Hamilton Tuesday.

Hamilton Police say on Tuesday, shortly before 11:30 a.m., a couple was walking along Kenora Avenue when the man in the couple became involved in a heated exchange with residents of the 245 Kenora Ave. residential complex.

According to police, the situation escalated when the man discharged a firearm in a resident’s direction, causing damage to the property.

The couple then fled the scene and no one was physically injured, police say.

Hamilton Police were contacted and immediately responded and the couple was quickly located and arrested.

With the assistance of members of the community, officers were able to quickly determine the sequence of events and locate evidence involved in the commission of the offence.

Amongst other things, the firearm and a quantity of narcotics were recovered.

Through continued investigation, police learned the man was in possession of fentanyl and money believed to be associated with illicit drug sales. The man was taken into police custody and is scheduled to have his matter brought before the courts Wednesday.

Detectives determined the role of the woman in the couple was not criminal and she was released unconditionally.

There is no known connection between the resident and the suspect, police say.

Police seized:

  • Fentanyl
  • Sentinel Revolver
  • Undisclosed amount of Canadian currency

The 44-year-old suspect is charged with:

  • Nine firearm-related offences
  • Possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
