Man arrested after pedestrian struck in Hamilton

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fail to remain collision that struck a 31-year-old man in Hamilton.

On Dec 20, shortly before 10:00 p.m., a man was travelling on Wellington Street North between King William Street and King Street East in Hamilton.

At the same time, a 2008 Nissan sedan, was travelling southbound on Wellington Street North and struck the man.

Hamilton Police say 21-year-old Hamilton resident Antonio Diego Ayala struck the man and fled the scene.

Police say the pedestrian was taken to a hospital and has sustained serious injuries to his leg and head and his injuries are life-threatening.

Ayala’s car was located by police a short time later abandoned on Twenty Road East in Hamilton with obvious signs of an intentional fire.

Police say Ayala attended Station 10 on Dec 28 and was arrested and charged with Fail to Remain Causing Bodily Harm, Public Mischief and Arson to Personal Property.

He will appear at the John Sopinka Court House on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Police say the pedestrian still remains in hospital in critical condition.
