Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger said Tuesday (June 2) at a virtual media briefing that crews were going to start reopening them on Friday.

“Wash your hands before and after using them and physical distancing will be required,” he said. “If they get too crowded, don’t go.”

Hamilton’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, echoed Eisnebergers words in saying that proper hygiene will be a key part of our “new reality.”

“We need to remember not to get tired,” she said. “We need to continue to protect ourselves and the vulnerable people around us.”

The City of Hamilton is currently reporting 697 cases of COVID-19 in the community as of Tuesday afternoon — 690 confirmed and seven probable.

That total is up by 12 new cases from Monday’s reporting.

Hamilton’s death toll is currently 38.

Richardson pointed out that the City is down to three active outbreaks in long-term care or congregate facilities in Hamilton — down from five Monday.

She also touted Hamilton’s recovery rate which is again on the rise, up to 76 per cent, which means 529 of the city’s overall cases have been resolved.

Hamilton hospitals are currently treating 57 people for COVID-19.

In the meantime, Ontario reported 446 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, and 17 more deaths.

That brings the provincial total to 28,709 cases — a 1.6 per cent increase over the previous day.

It includes 2,293 deaths and 22,484 cases that have been resolved.

There were 15,244 tests completed in the previous day — the second day in a row the province did not meet its goal of 16,000 a day amid a push to increase testing levels.
