As of Thursday (June 11), the City of Hamilton is reporting 751 cases of COVID-19 in the community since the virus was first reported here in early March.

This is an increase of four cases from Wednesday’s reporting.

There are 744 confirmed cases and seven probable, while the city has seen 595 of its overall cases resolved, representing approximately 79 per cent of Hamilton’s total cases.

There are just under 160 active cases of COVID-19 in Hamilton at the moment.

Hamilton’s death toll is up to 42, with the latest death confirmed Wednesday.

Late Wednesday, the single outbreak still being registered by Hamilton’s Public Health Service was declared over.

Hamilton Health Sciences said the outbreak in the COVID-19 ward at Hamilton General Hospital which saw 10 staff members test positive for the virus had been declared over. That outbreak was declared on May 23.

There are currently 37 people being treated for COVID-19 in Hamilton hospitals, a number that hasn’t changed for the last three days.

Meanwhile, Ontario reported just 203 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday — the lowest growth rate in more than three months, which also coincided with a record number of tests completed.

Ontario completed 24,341 tests in the previous day, the highest daily total to date.

With the 203 new cases, the province has now had a total of 31,544. That’s an increase of 0.6 per cent over the previous day — the lowest growth rate in new cases since early March.

The total includes 12 new deaths for a total of 2,487, and 25,885 resolved cases — 505 more than the previous day.

Health Minister Christine Elliott noted in a tweet that the number of resolved cases is growing faster than the number of new cases.

“In fact, since Tuesday there are 709 fewer active cases of the virus in Ontario,” she wrote. “The vast majority of new cases continue to come from the Greater Toronto Area.”

The regions allowed to move to Stage 2 of Ontario’s economic reopening plan Friday are still seeing few if any new cases, Elliott wrote.
