Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, police were called to investigate a road rage incident at Mohawk Road East and Upper Wellington Street.

“A Toyota Rav4 and Honda Civic were travelling southbound on Upper Wellington when the Honda made a driving action that caused the Toyota to stop abruptly,” police say.

The two drivers verbally confronted each other outside their vehicles.

After both returning to their vehicles, the Honda was rammed from behind, causing major rear-end damage and pushing it into the intersection.

The Rav4 then fled the scene, with the Honda driver following it to an address on Warren Avenue.

“When the Honda driver exited his vehicle the Rav4 driver confronted him with a knife,” police say. “The Honda driver used his snow brush to shield himself and push the knife away.”

He left the area and called police. No injuries were reported.

The Rav4 driver, a 24 year old Hamilton man, was located and arrested on the following charges:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Assault with Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

He has since been released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, February 24.
