A much-loved and missed Hamilton craft brewer has reopened after a brief hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and they’re on a mission to do some good for our community.

Fairweather Brewing Company closed down back in late March when the pandemic started forcing the closure of a number of businesses.

At the time, the team said they were going to suspend all operations — including pick up and delivery — to protect the safety of their staff and the community.

“We decided to take a step back, take time for ourselves and those around us, and make sure we weren’t doing any harm by simply being open and doing what we love to do,” a post on Fairweather’s Instagram announcing the resumption of operations says.

“We’ve come to the realization that getting back to work means an opportunity to give back to those around us who have experienced loss in the recent economic downturn.”

⁣ Well, after a brief hiatus, and failed kissing booth start up, we have determined that we are only good at one thing. Until we figure out what that is, we are going to subsidise our lives by selling beer. BEER! ⁣ ⁣ Truthfully the past few weeks have been weird (not sure if anyone noticed). We have seen such amazing support from our friends, family, customers, government; we are overwhelmed. We decided to take a step back, take time for ourselves and those around us, and make sure we weren't doing any harm by simply being open and doing what we love to do. This time has been very hard on everyone, and we must acknowledge the suffering that many in our community are experiencing. We should also take a minute to acknowledge the way everyone has come together to navigate the pandemic; we are far from out of the woods, but it seems we are on the right track.⁣ ⁣ We've come to the realization that getting back to work means an opportunity to give back to those around us who have experienced loss in the recent economic downturn. At this point, the federal government has very much come to our rescue, and we want to pay that forward. We are proud to announce that IF we are fortunate enough to turn a profit in the next month, we will be donating every penny of it to local charities. We are fortunate beyond measure, and being able to help those who are not is the spice of life as far as we're concerned. ⁣ ⁣ Thank you for hanging in there with us; we realize that us going AWOL has been frustrating for those who have been supporting us this whole time, but it's what we strongly believed we had to do for our tight-knit family here. ⁣ ⁣ We are back at it. Our online shop is live, we have new beers. Contactless pick up, free local delivery, and province-wide shipping are all a go. So…. yeah. Let's do some good together, shall we?

The post goes on to tout the efforts of higher levels of government in supporting Canadians through the crisis and how now it’s time to pay it forward.

The Fairweather team says that if they are able to turn a profit in the coming weeks, they will be donating ALL OF IT to local charities.

“We are fortunate beyond measure, and being able to help those who are not is the spice of life as far as we’re concerned,” the post reads.

Their return to production has got Hamiltonians abuzz. The Instagram announcement of their reopening, posted on Thursday (April 23), already has more than 1,500 likes and the comments section is filled with appreciation for the brewer from Hamilton’s beer lovers.
