Hamilton woman charged with careless driving in crash that sent pedestrian to hospital

A 36-year-old Hamilton woman has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm after a woman was struck by a car at a busy intersection in the city’s downtown in late December.

In a press release issued Thursday (Jan. 28), Hamilton Police said the woman was formally charged Wednesday and the victim, a 48-year-old woman who, with the right-of-way, was crossing in a marked crosswalk, continues to recover from her life-threatening injuries at home.

The incident took place on Monday, December 21, 2020, shortly after 11:30 a.m., at the intersection of James Street South at Young Street when the driver of a Honda CRV was making a left turn from Young Street with a green light and struck the pedestrian, knocking her to the ground.

Emergency crews responded and the victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver is scheduled to appear in Court on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.
