Hamilton police charged a 17-year-old male from Ancaster after incidents in which residents were either sprayed or threatened with the spraying of an “unknown substance”.

On July 4, just before 5:00 p.m., police said a male riding an electric bike approached an Ancaster resident as he exited his car in a driveway in the area of Stonehenge Dr and Thoroughbred Blvd.

The suspect allegedly approached and threatened to spray the man with mace while holding the can in his direction.

“The suspect decided not to spray and left the area on his e-bike”, said police.

On the same day, a second incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. Police said a male and female inside their parked car at Ancaster Meadow Public School on Kitty Murray Ln in Ancaster was approached by a male on an e-bike.

Police believe it was the same male suspect.

He allegedly walked up to the car and sprayed both the man and woman with what police called an unknown substance.

The victims reportedly left the area immediately to a safe location where EMS was able to transport them both to the hospital for treatment.

Both attacks were unprovoked, according to police; who canvassed the area and obtained surveillance video that identified the suspect.

The 17-year-old was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and released on a promise to appear.
