Hamilton Police say they are investigating the city’s fifth homicide of 2020 after a 79-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment last week.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday (May 16), Gladys Little was found dead in her apartment at 187 Park Street South in downtown Hamilton.
Gladys missed her daily check-in call with her son, police say, so family members attended her residence to check on her well-being.
Upon finding Gladys in the apartment, her family called 911.

Gladys was pronounced dead at the scene and the coroner attended.
Due to the circumstances found at the scene, police say a post mortem was ordered to determine the cause of death.
The apartment was secured and held by police pending the results of the autopsy. The scene was processed by the Forensic Service Branch to assist the coroner with their death investigation.
Police also interviewed the victim’s neighbours and residents of the apartments on the floors immediately above and below Gladys’s. Members from the Forensic Video Unit obtained CCTV footage from the building.
The post mortem was conducted on Wednesday and revealed that Gladys was the victim of a homicide and her family has been notified, police say.
The Major Crime Unit is in charge of the investigation and a complete canvass of the twenty-story apartment building was undertaken on Wednesday afternoon.
Police are asking anyone from the building who saw or heard any suspicious activity or persons between 1 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday to call the Major Crime Unit.
It is unknown if Gladys knew her killer or answered the door to them. Police are reminding residents to keep their doors locked and ensure they are taking appropriate steps when answering their doors.
The scene at 187 Park St. South is being maintained to allow for further forensic processing.
