Hamilton reports 150 new COVID-19 cases as Ontario records another new high

Hamilton has 150 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday (April 15) contributing to the record-high amount being reported across Ontario.

New data released by the Ontario government shows 4,736 new infections, pushing beyond previous high levels recorded just days ago.

While Hamilton numbers have climbed steadily during the past week, with 201 reported Wednesday, neighbouring communities are accounting for a majority of the new cases.

Toronto records 1,188 new cases Thursday, Peel Region has 983, York Region 526, Durham Region 216, and Halton Region has 140 new cases.

Several other jurisdictions across the province are showing triple-digit increases for the first time since the pandemic hit.

As of Thursday, the number of people in intensive care units (ICU) across the province is 659, which is also a new high. Of those in ICU, 442 people require breathing assistance through a ventilator. In total, 1,932 patients are being treated in Ontario hospitals for the virus

As well, 29 people have died as a result of COVID-19 in Ontario in the past 24 hours.
