Update: Senior struck by car in Hamilton’s East End dies from injuries

Update: Hamilton Police say the 86-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Queenston Rd and Parkdale Ave has succumbed to his injuries while in hospital.

Police say, after reviewing the evidence, the driver will not be facing any charges. They added that the driver cooperated with investigators.

This is the City’s 13th traffic fatality of the year and the 4th involving a pedestrian.

Original Story (10/19/2020): Hamilton Police are investigating after a senior sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car in the city’s East End over the weekend.

Police say they were called Sunday (Oct. 18) shortly after 9:30 p.m., after an 86-year-old man, who was attempting to cross northbound on Queenston Road, just west of Parkdale Avenue, was struck by a car.

The victim was struck by a westbound vehicle approximately 250 metres west of the above-mentioned intersection, police said in a press release.

“The driver immediately pulled over and contacted police,” the release says.

“The pedestrian was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment. His injuries are considered serious but non-life-threatening.”

Police say that as a result of the level injuries incurred by the man, the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.

Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision or anyone who has dash-cam footage and has yet to speak with police, to come forward.

Speed and driver impairment have been ruled out as contributing factors to the collision, police said.

Out of respect for the family, police are not releasing the identity of the pedestrian at this time.
