Hamilton Police release image of suspect in robbery and assault on blind man

Hamilton Police are searching for the suspect in an incident where a man with visual and hearing impairment was assaulted and robbed while entering a building in East Hamilton.

Hamilton Police are searching for the suspect in an incident where a man with visual and hearing impairment was assaulted and robbed while entering a building in East Hamilton.

On Sunday (May 31), shortly after 5:30 p.m., police say the victim was entering the main floor of an apartment building on Melvin Ave. when a man came up from behind and pushed the victim through the open door and robbed him of jewelry.

The suspect was last seen in the area of Sumach Street and Melvin Avenue.

Witnesses in the area told police that the suspect was in possession of a small knife.

The victim did not receive any physical injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man, between the age of 30 and 40 years old and standing approximately 5’ 10” tall. The suspect is said to have a small build and a goatee and moustache.

At the time of the incident, police say he was wearing a black hooded sweater and light-coloured pants and possibly sporting a face-covering — either a mask or bandana.

Police are asking the public to check their cameras and contact police if they have any information that could assist with this investigation.
